O Level

Cambridge O Level Tamil is designed for learners who already have a working knowledge of the language and who want to consolidate, and develop further, their understanding to progress in their academic or professional careers. Learners will gain an understanding of how to use Tamil effectively in the type of situations, and Tamil-speaking environments, that they will encounter in their daily lives. 

The aim is to enable learners to achieve greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the written language and to achieve a level of practical communication which can also form the basis for further, more in-depth language study.

O Level

This syllabus enables learners to acquire knowledge of basic statistical ideas, methods and terminology. Study of the content of the syllabus enables learners to represent and use statistical data in graphical, diagrammatic and tabular forms, interpret statistical statements, calculations and diagrams, perform statistical calculations accurately and acquire knowledge of elementary ideas in probability. 

Cambridge O Level Statistics provides a suitable foundation for further study in the subject, as well as developing concepts which are relevant in a wide range of other subjects.

O Level

The syllabus develops a set of transferable skills including handling data, practical problem solving and applying the scientific method. Students learn the core principles and concepts that are fundamental to biology, chemistry and physics with a strong focus on practical skills.

The emphasis throughout is on developing an understanding of the science relevant to everyday life, and the associated scientific attitudes such as concern for accuracy and precision, objectivity, integrity, enquiry, initiative and inventiveness. Learners develop the scientific knowledge and associated transferrable skills that give a firm foundation for progression to further studies in science or vocational careers.

O Level

The Cambridge O Level Religious Studies syllabus focuses on Christian origins. It encourages learners to take a thoughtful approach to the study of the life and teaching of Jesus, as contained in the Gospel of Luke, and also considers the birth and development of the early church, as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. 

As a result, learners develop an enquiring and critical approach to the study of biblical texts and are able to explore the religious, ethical and historical questions raised. The syllabus is open to learners of any religion (or none), and both the New International Version and the Revised Standard Version of the Bible are used for quotations.

O Level

Cambridge O Level Physics helps learners to understand the technological world in which they live, and take an informed interest in science and scientific developments. The syllabus includes the basic principles and concepts that are fundamental to the subject, some current applications of physics, and a strong emphasis on practical skills. 

Learners also develop an understanding of the scientific skills essential for progression to Cambridge International AS & A Level, further education or a career related to science.

O Level

Cambridge O Level Additional Mathematics supports learners in building competency, confidence and fluency in their use of techniques and mathematical understanding. This course helps learners to develop a feel for quantity, patterns and relationships. Learners will develop their reasoning, problem-solving and analytical skills in a variety of contexts.

It provides a strong foundation of mathematical knowledge both for candidates studying mathematics at a higher level and those who will require mathematics to support skills in other subjects. It is designed to stretch the most able candidates and provides a smooth transition to Cambridge AS & A Level Mathematics.

O Level

The syllabus enables learners to read, interpret and evaluate texts through the study of literature in English. Learners develop an understanding of literal meaning, relevant contexts and of the deeper themes or attitudes that may be expressed. Through their studies, they learn to recognize and appreciate the ways in which writers use English to achieve a range of effects, and will be able to present an informed, personal response to the material they have studied. 

The syllabus also encourages the exploration of wider and universal issues, promoting learners' better understanding of themselves and of the world around them.

O Level

The Cambridge O Level History syllabus looks at some of the major international issues of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as covering the history of particular regions in more depth. The emphasis is on both historical knowledge and on the skills required for historical research.

Learners develop an understanding of the nature of cause and effect, continuity and change, similarity and difference and find out how to use and understand historical evidence as part of their studies. Cambridge O Level History will stimulate any learner already interested in the past, providing a basis for further study, and also encouraging a lifelong interest in the subject.

This syllabus replaces Cambridge O Level History (Modern World Affairs) (2134) from 2020 onwards. The last examination series for Cambridge O Level History (Modern World Affairs) (2134) will be November 2019.

O Level

The Cambridge O Level Hinduism syllabus enables learners to develop an enquiring and critical approach to the study of Hinduism; it also provides an introduction to a variety of interpretations of the ideas contained in Hinduism. The course looks at aspects of knowledge, action and devotion, worship and festivals, Hindu ethics and reform movements in Hinduism in the 19th and 20th centuries. Learners build on this foundation to identify and explore some of the religious and ethical questions raised in The Principal Upanishads, The Bhagavad Gita and Shri Ramacharitamanasa. The syllabus gives learners an appreciation of one of the major religions of the world.

Through the Cambridge O Level Geography syllabus, learners will develop a 'sense of place' by looking at the world around them on a local, regional and global scale. Learners examine a range of natural and man-made environments, and learn about some of the processes that affected their development. They will also look at the ways in which people interact with their environment, and the opportunities and challenges an environment can present, thereby gaining a deeper insight into the different communities and cultures that exist around the world.

O Level

This syllabus is designed for students who are learning French as a foreign language. The aim is to develop an ability to use the language effectively for purposes of practical communication. The course for first examination in 2019 is based on the linked language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, and these are built on as learners progress through their studies. 

The syllabus also aims to offer insights into the culture and civilisation of countries where French is spoken, thus encouraging positive attitudes towards language learning and towards speakers of foreign languages.

The Cambridge O Level Food and Nutrition syllabus introduces both the theoretical and practical aspects of buying and preparing food. Dealing with diet and health in everyday life, learners gain an understanding of the nutritional value of basic foods and develop the skills required to produce a balanced family meal. Consumer awareness is encouraged, as are high standards of personal and kitchen hygiene, especially when learners put their knowledge into practice in order to produce creative and enjoyable dishes.

The Cambridge O Level English Language syllabus enables learners to communicate accurately, appropriately and effectively and to understand and respond appropriately and imaginatively to what they read and experience. They will employ different forms of writing to suit a range of purposes and will show that they can understand the content and argument of given texts.

The Cambridge O Level Economics syllabus develops an understanding of economic theory, terminology and principles. Learners study the economics of different countries and how these interrelate. They also learn to work with simple economics data and to use the tools of economic analysis. Learners apply understanding of economics to current economic issues. 

The Cambridge O Level Economics syllabus provides a foundation for further study, including Cambridge International AS & A Level Economics, or the equivalent.

Cambridge O Level Computer Science helps learners develop an interest in computational thinking and an understanding of the principles of problem-solving using computers. They apply this understanding to create computer-based solutions to problems using algorithms and a high-level programming language. Learners also develop a range of technical skills, and the ability to effectively test and evaluate computing solutions.

Studying Cambridge O Level Computer Science helps learners appreciate current and emerging computing technologies, the benefits of their use and recognize their potential risks. It provides an ideal foundation for progression to Cambridge International AS & A Level and is valuable for other areas of study and everyday life.

Cambridge O Level Commerce (7100) learners gain an introduction to the nature of commercial activities, how these activities are affected by changes in the commercial environment, and the impact they have on national and international consumers, producers, retailers and wholesalers. The syllabus looks at the purpose and function of major commercial activities, examining language, concepts and decision-making procedures, and the importance of communication and documentation. 

Learners study the nature and importance of innovation and change, and develop complementary skills of enquiry, interpretation and communication.
